Ceramic-Lined Horizontal Slurry Pumps — Abrasion and Corrosion Together
Sintered ceramic and silicon carbide wetted parts for duties where abrasion and corrosion occur together.
Ceramic wet ends are specified where abrasion and corrosion occur together — the combination that shortens the life of a metal wet end regardless of its hardness.
- Sintered silicon nitride bonded with silicon carbide
- Chemically inert — neither wear mechanism has a route in
- Split pump-head construction; discharge angle rotatable, multi-stage connection possible
- Installation dimensions interchange with metal slurry pumps
- Our own patented design
- Drafting member of the group standard for centrifugal ceramic slurry pumps

Why Ceramic, Not Harder Metal
High-chrome white iron resists abrasion well, but corrosion attacks the matrix between the hard carbides; the carbides are then lost mechanically. Where the slurry is both strongly abrasive and chemically aggressive, hardness alone does not address the mechanism. Ceramic and silicon carbide resist both, because the material is chemically inert as well as extremely hard.
Where It Is Used
- Metal and non-metal ore concentrators running strongly abrasive, high-concentration slurry.
- Duties with acidic or otherwise aggressive process water.
- Positions where metal wet-end life has proved unsatisfactory.

Why ceramic rather than a harder metal?
High-chrome white iron resists abrasion well, but corrosion attacks the matrix between the hard carbides and the carbides are then lost mechanically. Where the slurry is both strongly abrasive and chemically aggressive, hardness alone does not address the mechanism. Ceramic and silicon carbide are chemically inert as well as hard, so neither wear route is open.
Can a ceramic pump replace an installed metal pump?
Installation dimensions and parts interchange with metal slurry pumps, so a direct replacement is often possible. Send us the model and mounting details and we will confirm before you order.
Which duties suit a ceramic wet end?
Metal and non-metal ore concentrators running strongly abrasive, high-concentration slurry; duties with acidic or otherwise aggressive process water; and positions where metal wet-end life has proved unsatisfactory.
What should I send with an enquiry?
The flow and head, the slurry analysis with particle size distribution and solids concentration, the pH, and the operating temperature. We will confirm the model and issue the performance curve with the quotation.
