Three Submersible Families, Three Different Jobs

Submersible does not describe one pump here; it describes three ranges that are not interchangeable. SZBQ is the mining and slurry machine, built around abrasion. SP(B)Q is the amphibious sand machine, built around running unattended. Submersible sewage pumps are the municipal and industrial machines, built around passing fibre without blocking. Picking on the word submersible alone is the most common way to end up with the wrong pump on site, so the sections below set out what separates them.

SZBQ for Abrasive Slurry

SZBQ is a fully submerged pump-and-motor unit with 27 percent chrome wet parts, twin tungsten-carbide mechanical seals in series and an oil chamber between them. Coverage is 10 to 6,000 cubic metres per hour against 8 to 60 metres, with motors from 3 to 450 kilowatts. Solids are taken to 50 millimetres and 60 percent by weight, at pH 6 to 8 on the standard build. It sits in the sump with no pump house or foundation, and a bottom agitator can be added where sludge has compacted.

SP(B)Q for Unattended Sand Duty

SP(B)Q solves a different problem: entrained air stalling the impeller and forcing someone to attend the pump. A gas-isolation port vents that air instead of letting it collect, and the motor is cooled by the medium passing through its outer sleeve rather than by immersion, so the unit tolerates shallow or intermittently dry pits. Both arrangements are patented. Coverage is 30 to 2,000 cubic metres per hour at 6 to 260 metres, 3 to 315 kilowatts, particles 7 to 60 millimetres, medium to 40 degrees Celsius.

Submersible Sewage Pumps for Fibrous Sewage

Submersible sewage pumps use channel impellers with one, two or three vanes chosen against the medium, with a cutter impeller offered where rag and fibre are the problem rather than grit. Flow reaches 4,000 cubic metres per hour with particles to 50 millimetres. Motors are IPX8 and IP68 rated with class F insulation to 155 degrees Celsius, running on mechanical seals faced in tungsten carbide, graphite or silicon carbide. Head and power coverage is provided on request against your duty point.

How do you prevent motor water ingress on the submersible slurry pump?

The SZBQ uses two pairs of tungsten-carbide-faced mechanical seals with an isolating oil chamber, in an IP68 enclosure with an F-class insulated 4-pole IE3 motor. Seal service life reaches 30,000 hours; seals are changed at 4,000 hours and bearings re-greased at 2,000 hours. Protection covers overload, phase loss, short circuit, water ingress, and winding and bearing over-temperature.

Is unattended operation real, and how does the gas-isolation vent prevent air-lock in sand-laden water?

The SP(B)Q gas-isolated sand pump vents automatically through a gas-isolation port to prevent air-lock (patent ZL 202123102801.3), and its motor is cooled by the pumped medium so the pump does not need to be submerged (patent ZL 202123054344.5). Together these allow continuous unattended running in sand-laden water.

Will the impeller clog on fibrous municipal sewage, and do you offer channel or cutter impellers?

The submersible sewage range offers single-, twin- and three-vane channel impellers selected by medium, with a cutter impeller option for fibrous sewage. Motors are IPX8/IP68 with F-class insulation to 155 °C, mechanical seals with tungsten-carbide, graphite or silicon-carbide faces, and SKF or NTN bearings.

Which of the three submersible types fits my duty?
