Overview
The SSP(R) is a vertical centrifugal slurry pump that hangs into the liquid from a mounting plate above the pit. Only the wet end and the column are submerged; the drive sits clear above. It is used for abrasive, coarse-grained, high-concentration slurry in submerged-duty applications where a pump outside the pit cannot hold suction.

Why Submerged Duty Changes the Design
- No shaft seal, no seal water — because the impeller runs below liquid level there is nothing to seal against pressure, so the gland water supply, its pipework and its consumption all disappear.
- Operates with inadequate suction — the pump does not rely on suction conditions at all, which is the usual reason for choosing it over a horizontal pump on a sump.
- Semi-open impeller with mixing blade — a mixing blade is carried on the extension of the impeller suction side, keeping solids in suspension at the intake instead of letting them consolidate on the pit floor.
Wet-End Builds
SSP is built in wear-resistant metal throughout. SSPR carries rubber lining on the submerged parts and is used for abrasive slurry that does not contain sharp angular particles, including acidic duty where a metal wet end would corrode. Both builds share the same installation envelope, so the wet-end choice does not change the pit arrangement.
Extended-Shaft Builds
Models carrying the (L) suffix are extended-shaft builds for deeper liquid. These add a guide bearing to the standard pump, which steadies the shaft over the longer span and makes operation smoother across a wider range of duties. The guide bearing area requires flushing water — this is the one water supply an extended build does need, and it must be allowed for at the design stage. Column extension is supplied in fixed steps — 0, 300, 600, 900 and 1200 mm — where 0 is the standard-length pump.
Model Designation
Model numbers read in the form 40PV(L): the figure is the outlet diameter in millimetres, the letter group is the frame type, the suffix identifies the metal or rubber build, and L denotes the extended-length build. Frame types run PV, QV, RV, SV and TV across outlet sizes from 40 mm to 300 mm.

Does the pump need shaft seal water?
The standard build needs none, because there is no shaft seal. Extended-shaft builds add a guide bearing which does require flushing water in the bearing area.
What does (L) in the model number mean?
Extended length, for deeper liquid. The extended-shaft build adds a guide bearing to steady the shaft over the longer span.
Can it handle coarse solids?
Yes — the series is intended for abrasive, coarse-grained, high-concentration slurry. Use the metal SSP build where particles are sharp and angular.
