Overview
The SAH series is a cantilever, horizontal centrifugal slurry pump for metallurgy, mining, mineral processing, tailings, coal, power generation and mortar duty, moving high-concentration, strongly abrasive slurry. It is the general-purpose heavy-duty range in our line, and the range from which most replacement and new-installation selections are made.

Model Designation
Our model numbers are our own and read directly off the pump. In the form 10/8ST: the first figure is the inlet diameter, the second is the outlet diameter, and the letter group identifies the frame plate type. Series suffixes distinguish the standard hydraulic range from the high-head range. Reading the designation therefore tells you the connection sizes before any drawing is opened.
Double-Casing Construction
The SAH series uses a double-casing arrangement: pump body and cover carry replaceable wear-resistant liners — impeller, volute liner, throatbush and frame plate liner insert. Body and cover are cast in grey iron or ductile iron according to working pressure, split vertically and bolted, with the body bolted to the bracket against a stop. Because the wear parts are separate from the pressure casing, only the worn element is replaced rather than the whole casing.
The impeller carries back vanes on both front and rear shrouds to reduce recirculation and extend wear life. The inlet is horizontal and the pump rotates clockwise viewed from the drive end. The discharge can be rotated at 45° intervals through eight positions, which usually removes the need to alter site pipework.
Rubber-Lined Build
The rubber-lined build uses the same double-casing arrangement with replaceable wear- and corrosion-resistant rubber liners, including the impeller and the front and rear liners. Body and cover are common with the metal-lined pumps, and the transmission parts and mounting forms are identical, so a site can move between metal and rubber wet ends without changing the drive train.
Complete Wear Material System
| Grade | Designation | δb / δw (MPa) | Hardness | Character | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A05 | KmTBCr27 | ≥700 | ≥HRC62 | Erosion resistance second only to A07, with some corrosion resistance | Higher-impact abrasive wear; duty at pH 5–12 |
| A07 | KmTBCr15Mo | ≥550 | ≥HRC59 | Best erosion resistance of the group; lower corrosion-wear resistance than A05 | Higher-impact abrasive wear where erosion dominates |
| A01 | KmTBCr8 | ≥550 | ≥HRC55 | Erosion resistance about 0.9 of A05 | Mud pumps and grout pumps |
| A11 | KmTBMnMo | ≥400 | HRC38–42 | Light erosion resistance, lower hardness — can be drilled and tapped | Fine-particle media with light abrasive wear |
| A49 | Anti-wear anti-corrosive iron | ≥600 | HRC43 | Erosion resistance plus corrosion resistance at low pH | Low-pH corrosive service, particularly flue gas; desulphurisation duty at pH ≥4 |
Impact toughness (αk) values are confirmed at quotation. Grade availability varies by component and pump series.
How to Read the Table
- Impact plus abrasion — A05 (KmTBCr27, ≥HRC62). The general-purpose heavy-duty grade, usable from pH 5 to 12.
- Erosion dominant, impact lower — A07 (KmTBCr15Mo, ≥HRC59). The best erosion resistance in the system, but less corrosion-wear resistance than A05.
- Lighter duty — A01 (KmTBCr8, ≥HRC55) at about 0.9 of the erosion resistance of A05, for mud and grout service.
- Machinable requirement — A11 (KmTBMnMo, HRC38–42). Lower hardness, but it can be drilled and tapped, which matters where a component must be modified or mounted.
Hardness Is Not the Only Criterion
A07 is harder than A05 and gives better erosion resistance, yet A05 is the more common selection. The reason is that A05 combines high hardness with a degree of corrosion resistance and greater tensile strength, so it tolerates impact loading and mildly corrosive media better. Specifying purely on hardness produces parts that resist erosion well and then fracture under impact. Where the medium is both abrasive and low-pH, neither grade is correct and the anti-corrosive irons should be used instead.
Components Available in High Chrome
Impeller, volute liner, throatbush, frame plate liner insert, cover plate liner, pump body and cover for single-casing gravel builds, and expeller and expeller ring for dynamic seal arrangements. On gravel pumps the whole casing is cast in wear-resistant metal because there is no separate liner.
Where Rubber Outlasts Metal
- Fine particles at high concentration — the service the lining is designed for.
- Rounded rather than angular solids — particle shape decides, not particle hardness.
- Corrosive slurry — the liners resist corrosion as well as wear.
- Noise-sensitive installations — an elastomer wet end runs quieter on the same duty.
Where Metal Is the Correct Choice
- Coarse solids and highly abrasive particles, anything approaching gravel size.
- High-impact duty — A05 high-chrome white iron (≥HRC62, tensile ≥700 MPa).
- Temperature beyond the elastomer limit.
- Variable or unknown particle size distribution, where metal is the safer default.
Polyurethane Alternative
Polyurethane liner sets are available in the same envelope for fine abrasive slurry in sliding-wear duty, sitting between rubber and metal in character.
Shaft Sealing
- Expeller seal — used where inlet positive pressure does not exceed 10 % of discharge pressure, on single-stage pumps or the first stage of a series set. No gland water required.
- Packing seal — simple and easy to maintain, but requires shaft seal water.
- Mechanical seal — the most stable of the three over a long running cycle, with the lowest leakage.
Drive and Bearings
All horizontal builds share a common series of transmission parts: bracket and bearing assembly, with a large shaft diameter and short overhang so the shaft does not deflect or vibrate under heavy duty. Bearings are heavy single- or double-row tapered roller and cylindrical roller types selected by transmitted power, grease lubricated, with sealed end covers plus labyrinth sleeve and ring at both ends to keep slurry out of the bearing housing.

How do I read the model number?
In the form 10/8ST the first figure is the inlet diameter, the second the outlet diameter, and the letters identify the frame plate type. The series suffix tells you whether it is the standard or high-head hydraulic range.
Which wear material should be specified?
A05 for high-impact abrasive wear at pH 5–12; A07 where erosion rather than impact dominates; A49 for low-pH duty at pH ≥4. Rubber or polyurethane for fine, high-concentration slurry without coarse particles.
Can the metal and rubber builds share parts?
Body, cover, transmission parts and mounting forms are common between the metal-lined and rubber-lined builds. Only the wet-end elements differ.
Which shaft seal needs no water supply?
The expeller seal, provided inlet positive pressure does not exceed 10 % of discharge pressure. Packing seals require shaft seal water; mechanical seals give the most stable long-cycle performance.
Can the discharge orientation be changed on site?
Yes. The discharge rotates at 45° intervals through eight positions.
Are you affiliated with any other pump manufacturer?
No. SHANGLISHI PUMP GROUP is an independent manufacturer. Our products are not manufactured by, affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorised by any other pump maker, and all model designations and dimensions shown are our own.
