SMC Series Mill Circuit Pump — Built for SAG and Ball Mill Duty
SMC series mill circuit pumps move large particles in highly abrasive slurry, for SAG and ball mill cyclone feed and water-flush crushing. Three builds — elastomer, high-chrome and unlined — on one frame.

SMC series mill circuit pumps handle large particles in highly abrasive slurry, and are built for the most severe duties in a mineral processing plant — ball and SAG mill cyclone feed, and water-flush crushing.
- Discharge 5″ to 34″ (125–850 mm); flow to 22,700 m³/h
- Three build options — SMC-R elastomer, SMC-M high-chrome, SMC-U all-metal
- Large-diameter, low-speed impellers for high efficiency
- Single-point gland adjustment
- Fast one-piece wet-end change-out
- Reverse rotation available for special installation orientations

Where the SMC Series Fits
Mill circuit duty is the most demanding position in a concentrator. The solids are coarse and freshly liberated, the concentration is high, and the circuit runs continuously — so a wear part that fails early stops the mill, not just the pump.
- SAG mill discharge — the coarsest material in the circuit.
- Ball mill discharge and cyclone feed — requires a stable duty point, because cyclone separation depends on inlet pressure staying constant as the impeller wears.
- Coarse tailings — long lines and high static head.
- Mineral sands, dredging and coal — high-volume abrasive transfer.
Three Builds, One Frame
The series is engineered to allow different material combinations on the same pump. Choosing between them is a wear-mechanism decision, not a price decision.
| Build | Liner | Casing | Impeller | Throatbush | Frame plate liner insert |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SMC-R | Thick elastomer | Ductile iron | Metal | Metal or elastomer | Metal or elastomer |
| SMC-M | High-chrome iron | Ductile iron | Metal | Metal | Metal |
| SMC-U | Unlined | High-chrome iron | Metal | Metal | Metal |
SMC-R suits fine, rounded, high-concentration slurry where an elastomer outlasts metal. SMC-M is the general answer for coarse angular solids. SMC-U removes the liner entirely — the full casing wall is wear material, which suits the coarsest duty where a liner would be broken rather than worn.

What to Send With Your Enquiry
Send the circuit position (SAG discharge, ball mill discharge, cyclone feed or tailings), the flow and head, the slurry analysis with particle size distribution and solids concentration, and the pH. We will confirm the model, the build (R / M / U) and the wear material, and issue the performance curve with the quotation.

Which build should I choose — R, M or U?
It follows the wear mechanism. Elastomer (R) outlasts metal on fine, rounded, high-concentration slurry. High-chrome (M) suits coarse angular solids. Unlined (U) puts the full casing wall in wear material, which suits the coarsest duty where a liner would be broken rather than worn.
Why large-diameter, low-speed impellers?
Wear rate rises sharply with impeller tip speed. A larger impeller turning more slowly moves the same flow at a lower speed, which is why the series is built this way for mill circuit duty.
What is single-point gland adjustment?
The gland is adjusted at one point rather than around the circumference, which keeps the adjustment even and makes it a faster job on a running plant.
Can the wet end be changed as a unit?
Yes — the series is designed for one-piece wet-end change-out, so the whole wet end lifts out together and the outage is shorter than replacing elements one at a time.
Can the pump run in reverse rotation?
Reverse rotation is available where the installation orientation requires it. Specify it at enquiry.
