SZPL is the vertical build of the SZP series — the same single-stage, single-suction, axial-suction hydraulic design mounted for sump and pit duty rather than on a horizontal baseplate.

Where It Is Used

The series carries slurry containing solid particles across power generation, metallurgy, coal and building materials — hydraulic ash removal in thermal power plants, ore slurry transport in concentrators, and coal slurry and heavy medium transport in coal washing plants.

The vertical arrangement suits positions where the pump hangs into a sump or pit rather than sitting on a floor-mounted baseplate.

Sealing Arrangements

Three arrangements are available, and the choice decides whether the installation needs a seal water supply.

  1. Expeller plus packing combination — stuffing box, auxiliary impeller, water seal ring, packing, packing gland and shaft sleeve.
  2. Packing seal — stuffing box, spacer sleeve, water seal ring, packing, packing gland and shaft sleeve.
  3. Mechanical seal — seal box, spacer sleeve, mechanical seal, gland and shaft sleeve. ⚠ Seal water must be supplied; running dry will burn out the seal.

Bracket and Lubrication

Two bracket structures are available: horizontally split and cylindrical.

  • Split bracket, thin-oil lubrication — bracket body and cover, shaft, bearing housing, bearings, bearing gland and sleeve, oil seal, water retaining plate and release collar. From the 150 mm size upward a water cooling device is fitted.
  • Split bracket, grease lubrication — adds an embedded cover and grease cup, and omits the water cooling device.
  • Cylindrical bracket — grease lubricated.

⚠ On thin-oil builds, oil must be filled to the level shown on the gauge before start-up. Running without oil overheats and damages the bearings.

Before You Start the Pump

  1. Motor rotation must match the arrow on the front casing. Test the motor separated from the pump; reverse rotation damages parts.
  2. Packing must be installed before operating.
  3. On mechanical seal builds, confirm the seal water supply is running.
  4. On thin-oil builds, confirm the oil level before start-up.

What is the difference between SZP and SZPL?

Same series and same hydraulic design. SZP is the horizontal build; SZPL is the vertical build for sump and pit duty.

How do I read the model number?

In 80SZPL-A36: 80 is the outlet diameter in millimetres, SZPL identifies the vertical build, A is the number of impeller vanes, and 36 is the impeller diameter in centimetres.

Which sealing arrangement should we choose?

Expeller plus packing where you want to limit seal water; packing alone as the general arrangement; mechanical where leakage cannot be tolerated. Mechanical seals must never run dry.

Thin oil or grease lubrication?

Thin oil for continuous heavy duty, with water cooling fitted from the 150 mm size upward. Grease where the maintenance regime favours it; the grease build omits the water cooling device.

What solids concentration can it handle?
