SG vs SGH gravel pump: start from the head your system needs. In our performance table, the three SGH models reach 72 to 80 m at the top of their range, while the SG models shown here top out between 48 and 66 m. Both kinds of gravel sand pump handle highly abrasive material with particles an ordinary slurry pump cannot pass.

What the H in SGH stands for
In our model codes, SG stands for gravel pump and SGH for high head gravel pump.
The rest of the code tells you the size. Take 6/4D-SG: the pump has a 6-inch inlet and a 4-inch outlet, and the letter D gives the frame. An SGH code such as 10/8S-SGH is read the same way.

Head and flow, model by model
Read the head column first, then the flow. The table below lists six sizes. Ask us about sizes that are not listed here.
| Model | Flow (L/s) | Flow (m³/h)* | Head (m) | Speed (r/min) | Efficiency (%) | NPSHr (m) | Inlet (mm) | Outlet (mm) | Max particle (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6/4D-SG | 10–70 | 36–252 | 3.5–51 | 600–1400 | 30–50 | 2.5–3.5 | 150 | 100 | 82 |
| 8/6E-SG | 38–160 | 137–576 | 10–48 | 800–1400 | 50–60 | 3–4.5 | 200 | 150 | 127 |
| 14/12G-SG | 140–880 | 504–3168 | 6–66 | 300–700 | 60–68 | 2–8 | 350 | 300 | 241 |
| 10/8S-SGH | 110–360 | 396–1296 | 18–80 | 500–950 | 60–72 | 2–5 | 250 | 200 | 180 |
| 12/10T-SGH | 170–620 | 612–2232 | 28–78 | 350–700 | 60–72 | 2–8 | 300 | 250 | 210 |
| 16/14TU-SGH | 200–1000 | 720–3600 | 20–72 | 300–500 | 60–72 | 3–6 | 400 | 350 | 230 |
* Flow (m³/h) is converted from L/s (× 3.6, rounded to the nearest whole number). Values are for preliminary selection only.
The widest SG flow range in the table is on the 14/12G-SG, at 140 to 880 L/s and 6 to 66 m. On the SGH side, the 16/14TU-SGH covers 200 to 1,000 L/s at 20 to 72 m, and the 10/8S-SGH lists the highest head, up to 80 m.
Speed, efficiency and NPSHr
The three SGH models run between 300 and 950 r/min, with efficiency of 60 to 72%. The SG models shown here run between 300 and 1,400 r/min, and the smallest, the 6/4D-SG, has the lowest efficiency range at 30 to 50%.
NPSHr across these six models runs from 2 to 8 m. Check it against the suction conditions on your site before you settle on a size.
The curve decides, the table narrows
Every model comes with a performance curve measured on clean water, and the area outlined in black on that curve is where we recommend running the pump. The table ranges only narrow the field, so make the final pick on the curve.
Particle size still sets a limit
Head decides between SG and SGH. Particle size decides how large the pump has to be. Each model in the table has a stated maximum particle size, from 82 mm on the 6/4D-SG to 241 mm on the 14/12G-SG. If your largest particle is above the figure for a model, choose a larger model or check with us first.
What to send us
Send us the flow, the total head and the largest particle size. Also tell us the solids concentration and how the pump will be fed. An engineer replies within 24 hours.
FAQ
What does SGH mean?
SGH is our high head gravel pump.
Which model in the table reaches 80 m?
The 10/8S-SGH lists a head of 18 to 80 m.
Are the table figures final?
No. They are for preliminary selection only, and the m³/h column is converted from L/s.
